Last week, in addition to delicious persimmons and bunches of kale, we gave our community the option to “add” a donation of 5 lbs of produce to a food bank to their box. Collectively, we raised 34,730 lbs! While we can’t say we’re surprised by the overwhelming generosity of the Imperfect community this Thanksgiving, we can say that we’re more humbled than Kendrick Lamar and more grateful than DJ Khaled. We want to introduce you to the three food banks that will be benefitting from your generous donations and share the wonderful work they’re doing.
Food Shift works with communities, businesses, and governments to reduce waste, provide jobs, and feed communities in the Bay Area. They believe that “By trimming waste and diverting food loss, we can alleviate hunger, create jobs, combat climate change, conserve natural resources, and cultivate more sustainable communities.” In their Food Shift kitchen, they turn our ugly produce into healthy meals for East Bay residents, as well as provide valuable job training for the homeless and unemployed.
LA Kitchen transforms our ugly produce into beautiful, wholesome meals that local charities distribute to the aging, low-income, and homeless populations of Los Angeles. LA Kitchen also helps at-risk foster children get valuable job training and life skills through their Empower Program. Through their programs, LA Kitchen empowers, nourishes, and engages the community.
Urban Gleaners and Imperfect believe that fighting food waste and ending hunger are one and the same. Put simply, Urban Gleaners collects delicious, fresh food from restaurants, events, and companies before it can go to waste and gets it to people who need it. We provide them with weekly donations of fresh produce to support their mission to alleviate hunger in the Portland, Oregon area.
We’re proud to support Food Shift, LA Kitchen, and Urban Gleaners year-round, but thanks to your support, we’re able to double down on our commitment to them and provide them with even more consistent and meaningful donations every week. This will have a powerful and positive impact on the lives of thousands of people all over the country. Please join us in a round of applause for the Imperfect community and the incredible work your generosity has fostered this holiday. Cheers!
