Ugly fruit is the ultimate lesson on not judging a book by its cover. Scarred and undersized fruits might not be good enough for supermarket shelves, but they’re perfect for juices, smoothies, and even beer!
We’re no strangers to collaborating with local breweries to make beer with ugly fruit, so when the brewers at the Rare Barrel, the Bay Area Mecca of sour beers, approached us about teaming up on a sour beer, we jumped at the chance.
They brewed a truly exceptional sour beer with a batch of our yellow nectarines and recently released it. Spoiler alert: it’s incredible. Our staff sampled some during a recent low-scoring football championship, and the bright, tart taste of nectarines lifted our thoughts away from gloomy weather and mediocre sports ball and elevated us to a happier and warmer place.
Since we can’t deliver you a bottle in your next box (as much as we wish we could) we recommend that you head to the Rare Barrel’s tasting room in Berkeley to taste it for yourself. It’s well worth a trip! They’ll be releasing the beer on Saturday Feb 16th. Cheers to more delicious beer and less food waste!
