August may seem like the grand finale of summer produce, but “back-to-school” season doesn’t have to mean back to bland or boring meals. Here are a few things you can get excited about in your Imperfect boxes this August:
Great Grapes from California
The table grape season is heating up in the Central Valley and our customers across the country can look forward to amazing grapes from our friends at Homegrown Organic Gardens. Some of our green grapes have an amber tint to them from sun exposure, the grape equivalent of a sunburn. Others are just smaller Thompson grapes, a variety that’s usually made into raisins instead of sold as grapes – even though the smaller grapes like Thompsons are actually sweeter than larger ones!
Avocados Strike Back
This summer has been hard for avocado fans because the California crop yielded half of what it did last year and the season was shorter than normal. Since the avocado season is always an elaborate relay race between growing regions, all of us were hungrily waiting for new regions to start producing and make this beloved fruit more available. Finally, a new crop is coming in from Mexico and parts of Peru, which will put avocados back on our menus at last.
More Organic Options for Texas
We’re working with more growers than ever before in Texas, so our customers in the Lone Star State can look forward to local, organically-grown sweet potatoes, cabbage, and eggplant this August!
Mushroom Mania in Pennsylvania
We’ve started sourcing outstanding mushrooms from Kennet Square, the mushroom capital of Pennsylvania. Our East Coast customers should stock up on these regional delicacies while they’re around!
Plenty of Pantry Options
Ever since we expanded our offerings to include a full lineup of grocery items, we’ve been delighted to hear how this has made our boxes more useful and better value for everyone. This August, we’ll have more variety than ever before, including dinnertime staples like pasta and beans, snacks like nut butter and dried fruit, and essential beverages like coffee, tea, and kombucha!
