Whip out your oven mitts, because we’ve got all things fall coming in hot in our fall grocery preview! We’re talking autumnal treats like Pumpkin Spice Coffee and cozy weather goodness like Butternut Squash Soup. So gather around the fire (or a candle will do the trick), pull on your fuzzy sweater, and bask in the bounty of fruits, vegetables, and “limited time only” everything.

Pumpkin This and Pumpkin That
If it can be pumpkin, you bet your gourd it will be. If you’re not already on the pumpkin spice train, hop on because we’re on the way to cinnamon and nutmeg heaven. First stop: our Pumpkin Tortilla Chips. Lightly salted and subtly pumpkin-y, these chips are unexpectedly delicious and suspiciously addictive. For dessert, it’s Crispy Pumpkin Spice Flavored Chocolate Chip Cookies accompanied by an aromatic mug of Pumpkin Spice Coffee. If you still can’t get enough, add our Pumpkin Pie Spice seasoning to anything for a dash of instant autumn.
Save Room For Soup
Making butternut squash soup from scratch sounds like a good idea until you realize you have to chop a massive, dense gourd. Lazy behavior is entirely acceptable this time of year, so we did all the heavy lifting and roasting for you! Imperfect butternut squash, carrots, onion, celery, and tomatoes harmonize in our Butternut Squash Soup for a fall favorite that will warm your belly and your heart. And don’t forget Minestrone – it’s a hearty vegetarian staple and a pantry essential for feel-good lazy days. Both of these soups are made with a delightful melange of Imperfect vegetables, so don’t let a single drop go to waste.

Seasonal Baked Goods for Everyone
Even if you don’t want to bake a pie from scratch, you can still fill your home with the autumnal aromas of our crisp Apple Pie, buttery Pecan Pie, and spiced Pumpkin Pie (have we mentioned pumpkin yet?). If pie’s not your jam, our warm Cinnamon Bread and crumbly Cranberry Orange Scones are sure to butter you up. And we weren’t kidding when we said “coming in hot”. Fresh from the sun, we have Organic Apple Crisp Granola baked in small batches at a solar-powered bakery.

Autumnal Produce Picks
Surely we’ve mentioned pumpkins by now? This fall, we’ll serve you plenty of other gourd-geous winter squashes and unique sweet potato varieties. Brussels sprouts and pomegranates will make an appearance and are eager to please as your favorite side dish. Watch for unique apple varieties and underappreciated persimmons – both are delicious in snacks, salads, and baked goods.
Stories We Love
At Lakeside Organics in Salinas County, CA, Dick Peixoto has been organic farming since before it was cool. They bring us some of our favorite imperfect produce like tiny cabbages and funky rutabagas. This fall, we’ll offer their fioretto cauliflower. Fioretto, which means flowering, is the new cauliflower on the farm that’s popular with chefs but has yet to find its stride on supermarket shelves. If you like broccolini, meet your new best friend fioretto.

August 26, 2020 at 8:35 pmSUPER!! I’M EXCITED…Hey you mentioned persimmons.
There are 2 varieties…the Haichya are best for cookies, steamed pudding etc.
They are acorn shaped large and very dark orange when fully ripe; also get very soft.
They can be eaten “out of hand” very sweet once ripe. I so hope you will have some of this persimmon!
Thank you!

August 26, 2020 at 8:40 pmOh Wow! I’m feeling like I do when the Eggnog comes out on the shelves every October. Call me excited! And maybe including a few recipes to go with! BTW the WHOLE family love love loved the purple brussels sprouts a while back! And I allowed one of the red new potatoes you sent a couple of months back to grow eyes. I quartered and planted two in medium flower pots just for fun. I got my harvest yesterday. May I saw WOW! I got 40 beautiful potatoes, some tiny some full and fat. Shows the quality of these foods because I planted 4 full sized yukon gold potatoes that I sent away for in three large pots and only got about half the harvest that I had gotten with yours. To be honest, your melons are hit or miss, but 90% of your produce is wonderful. Thanks very much. And if you want a 1903 recipe for pumpkin pie made from fresh pumpkins, let me know.

September 13, 2020 at 8:38 pmImperfect cannot in good conscience ship any produce covered in toxic ash from Salinas or anywhere else affected by the fires. Why would Imperfect even consider harming the health of its customers? This is a lawsuit waiting to happen. We need to see where each item of produce is from before ordering anything from Imperfect!
