If you pull out your magnifying glass and pop on your Sherlock cap, you might notice a slight difference in color. Minor discolorations and slight variations in hue make the grapes in the second photo unacceptable to most grocery chains. ⁠⠀

This isn't an optical illusion – it's romanesco! You may have seen this swirling geometric marvel at the grocery store and thought to yourself, "that's neat, but how do I eat it?"

The answer is joyfully! Like broccoli or cauliflower, romanesco works well in curries and stir frys. It's great raw for dipping, but it also holds up well to roasting, frying, boiling, and beyond. With heat, romanesco can be delightfully sweet, and pairs well with spicy or zesty flavors.
