We're working to help Texas farmers get back on th

We're working to help Texas farmers get back on their feet after historic freezing temperatures damaged crops all over the state. To do this, we're buying produce that has superficial cosmetic issues due to the freeze, but is completely delicious otherwise. ⁠⁠
⁠⁠
For example, our friends at @littlebearbrand had fields of Napa cabbage where the outside leaves of the cabbage froze, but the interior of the cabbage was totally fine. Instead of having to write this cabbage off as a loss and leave it in the fields to go to waste, we're able to help it find a home in your home!

The cold weather struck hard last week, but our team found a way to make the best of a bad situation and warm some hearts, feed people, and prevent waste along the way. When freezing temperatures prevented us from delivering orders in Nashville, our transportation team stepped up to make sure that over 10,500 pounds of food made it to @thenashvillefoodproject so it didn't go to waste. This thoughtfulness and fast thinking reminded us what living out our mission truly looks like. Please join us in extending a huge thanks to the folks who make all our donation efforts happen!

An update on our Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion efforts:⁠

Last year Imperfect Foods committed to being an actively anti-racist company to deepen our investment in building the type of food system we want to see in the world. In the spirit of transparency and accountability, we wanted to share what we've accomplished towards this goal. In the six months since making this pledge we have:⁠
⁠
• Donated $30,000 to the @NAACP and @appetiteforchange through company donations and our employee match program⁠
• Collected and shared resources that amplify Black voices⁠
• Provided dedicated time for employee education, particularly around race as it intersects with food and farming⁠
• Organized inclusive hiring training for our Talent Team in July⁠
• Hired a Talent Manager with a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) background⁠
• Invested in a DEI software for recruiting to minimize implicit biases in our hiring process⁠

To date, we've accomplished 25% of our goals and have learned a lot about where we can do a better job as a company. Meeting all the commitments of our anti-racist pledge will take time and hard work, but we are dedicated to change and will not settle for anything less.

These are some of the coffee plants at the Aguirre family farm in Guatemala, one of many sustainable farms from which @stumptowncoffee sources Direct Trade coffee.

The Aguirres use a hydroelectric power system (that's water power, baby!) to produce all their electricity and filter the water before returning it to the river. The surrounding area is thousand-year-old virgin forest, so they work hard to replant native species, avoid insecticides, and manage weeds the old-fashioned way – by machete.

Seeing how good coffee is grown always reminds us to be extra grateful for every last drop of it. We're proud to work with producers like Stumptown who believe in building a better food system ☕

We, like millions of others, were impacted by the extreme weather in Texas and the surrounding region this past week. To help our communities get back on their feet, we're offering free delivery to all our Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana customers to help nourish their recovery from the cold weather and power outages. In addition, we're offering them 20% off staples like protein, dairy, and eggs to help restock fridges after power losses.

We're also committed to donating $10,000 to @wckitchen, who has mobilized on the ground to provide meals to feed people in need.

We know this doesn’t solve all the problems our community faces, but we feel strongly that we must do our part in helping everyone recover from the extreme weather we all endured this past week. 💚

Undersized asparagus often went to restaurants, hotels, and other food service settings; however, with so many businesses shuttered or seeing reduced traffic due to the pandemic, a whole lot of asparagus is at risk of going to waste this year.

We're proud to offer a flexible and responsive option for growers who have produce they can't sell elsewhere. In our experience, sometimes doing the right thing for the environment just means keeping an ear to the ground and an open mind!
